You don't need me to tell you the last few years have been nothing short of exciting at WVU. I have had the opportunity and privilege to be at every one of the Mountaineers games over the last three seasons home and away. Who can forget the excitement of the amazing comeback against Louisville in 2005 to win in triple overtime? The 2006 game against Rutgers was also exciting. Another triple overtime win, and this one propelled the Mountaineers to another Gator Bowl. But my favorite moment was covering the 2005 team and enjoying the Sugar Bowl followed by the celebration. You could not help but be so happy for those players. We get to know them fairly well during the course of a season. That was a lot of fun. When admissions officers gather to create a freshman class, there is a large elephant in the room, wrote Jennifer Delahunty Britz, in The New York Times last week: the desire to minimize gender imbalance in their classes. Britz, the admissions dean at Kenyon College, wrote that her institution gets far more applications from women than from men and that, as a result, men are "more valued applicants." Britz discussed a female candidate who was considered borderline by the Kenyon team but who — had she been a he — would have been admitted without hesitation. .
NFC Championship Game won't be coldest
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Today's NFC Championship Game at Lambeau Field isn't likely to be the coldest ever in the NFL, but temperatures are expected to be near zero at kickoff. The coldest game in NFL history was the 1981 AFC Championship Game, played Jan. 10, 1982, at Cincinnati's Riverfront Stadium. The temperature was minus-9, and the wind chill plunged the readings to minus-59 as the Bengals beat San Diego 27-7. Next was the Ice Bowl on Dec. 31, 1967, for the NFL title at Lambeau Field. The Packers beat Dallas 21-17 on Bart Starr's quarterback sneak in the final seconds. It was minus-13 that day and the wind-chill factor was estimated at minus-48. Projections for today are temperatures reaching a high of 3 degrees, and the thermometer almost certainly will register below zero during what amounts to a night game.

The Arizona senator is stopping short of calling himself the GOP front-runner, saying he likes to "run from behind." THE VILLAGES, Fla. (AP) - Republican Rudy Giuliani has been on the ground in Florida for weeks pressing for votes, now he'll have some company. The GOP contenders are converging on the state in anticipation of the crucial January 29th GOP primary. Giuliani says he's been "waiting" to take on the competition. LOS ANGELES (AP) - TV sitcom star Suzanne Pleshette has died. She was 70. Pleshette played Bob Newhart's wife on "The Bob Newhart Show" in the 1970s. The husky-voiced actress also starred on Broadway and in the movies.
Packers, Giants Fans Ready To Take On Cold
The hand warmers that many fans commented on are in high demand but thanks to a corporate donation, they won't be hard to find come game time. Mills Fleet Farm donated 30,000 hand warmers to the Green Bay Packers, and they will be distributed to fans as they enter the gate for Sunday's game. .

PASSPORTS: No final word yet on when U.S. citizens will need a passport or an as-yet-to-be-created alternative for land and sea border crossings involving Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. But the State Department is preparing now.
As early as next month, department officials will begin accepting applications for a "passport card" that is cheaper and smaller than a passport and good only in the circumstances noted above. The limited-use card, which lasts 10 years, will cost $45 for adults ($25 of that will be waived if you already have a passport, including one up for renewal). Children 16 and younger pay $35 for a five-year card.
