Jeff Thelen's Blog

Hi everybody. I'm back from really slacking off from the blog over the holidays. This week, it's just a few random thoughts.

How many people are sick at your home, office or school? Seems like everyone in this newsroom is fighting some sort of bug right now. My symptoms are a sore throat, tiredness and aches and pains. I have no congestion, but my nose only runs at night. Wierd, isn't it? Alison Struve blows her nose so much she sounds like a foghorn. Stephanie Luisier and chief photographer Randy Bise both have that "sick sound" when they talk.

Was it just me or did the Badgers seem a little unfocused and unprepared for their bowl game? Perhaps it's the long layoff between their last regular season game and the contest on January 1. It was a sort of a fun game to watch, even if it was rather sloppily played.

Packers, Giants Fans Ready To Take On Cold

The hand warmers that many fans commented on are in high demand but thanks to a corporate donation, they won't be hard to find come game time. Mills Fleet Farm donated 30,000 hand warmers to the Green Bay Packers, and they will be distributed to fans as they enter the gate for Sunday's game. .

The winner - along with those in the other two categories - will be announced at a gala dinner on January 31.

*Amy Crooks/That's Life. Life Goes On sounds as though she's been working hard for her money and not blogging too much here.

*Marianne Love/Slight Detour has some fascinating historical info about Bonner County, including how Hoodoo Creek was formed and how Sagle got its name after losing out to Eagle in southern Idaho here.

This is my entry for JD'S Great Blog Crossover Challenge II. As some of you already know, I am an Ohio State Buckeye fan who resides in the Heart of Texas among some of the most die hard and passionate fans in this country...Texas Longhorn fans! The College football fan base in general is the most interesting group of sports fans to observe. In my opinion they are more colorful and crazed than any Professional Football, Baseball, Basketball, or Hockey fan base and the Texas Longhorn fan is indeed an interesting breed. The University of Texas is located in the great city of Austin. One of the coolest cities in the United States. Known for it's hospitable atmosphere and great night life. It has been called the "Live Music Capitol of the World" and I've have found that to be true. But on Saturdays in the fall it's all about the Longhorns.

Look above! I've made my list. I've checked it twice. It doesn't matter who was naughty or nice. Welcome to the fifth edition of PapaBear's Vinyl Flashback. It's the most wonderful time of the year in the PapaBear household and Chirstmas music can be heard around the clock. Unlike some, I never grow tired of a great yuletide tune. So, I present to you a list of 30 Christmas songs that are my all-time favorites. Remember, these are just my personal favorites. If I snubbed a favorite of yours please feel free to mention it in the comment section. As an added bonus I will include a trio of Sing-A-Longs at the bottom of this post. Hope you enjoy! 30. Watford accept King bid

WATFORD have accepted a £5m bid from Fulham for Marlon King.

Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson saw his £5m cash offer for the 11-goal striker accepted this afternoon and King will have a medical at Craven Cottage before signing a lucrative three-year deal. King is likely to make his debut against Arsenal, his boyhood club, on Saturday. Collins John, who rejected a move to Watford this time last season, will join on loan with a view to making the move permanent in the summer. For the full story, see tomorrow's Watford Observer.
