Detroit finished last in defense, 19th in offense, and coach Rod Marinelli, who supervises the defense, fired offensive coordinator Mike Martz, seeming to blame him for the team's late-season collapse. Herm "I Honor My Contact When I'm in the Mood" Edwards just fired his entire offensive staff. The grapevine says Mike "The Ultimate Leader" Shanahan might fire defensive coordinator Jim Bates, one year after firing defensive coordinator Larry Coyer. Apparently, all these assistant coaches did terrible jobs -- they must all have forgotten how to coach! -- while all the head coaches in question were in no way responsible. "Win as a team, lose as a team" means that when you lose, all coaches are equally to blame. Instead, coaches shift blame by cashiering assistants, either implying or stating outright that whatever went wrong was the assistants' fault.
Sidney graduate Simonds gives Colgate football a lift
Sidney graduate Pat Simonds is catching on at Colgate University. Wide receiver Simonds had three catches for a team-high 75 yards Saturday, when his Colgate football team fell, 34-31, to visiting Fordham. Simonds' outing included a college-long 44-yard reception in the opening quarter. One season after earning no statistics in six appearances, sophomore Simonds has 199 yards on 13 catches in four games with the Raiders (2-2). His total receiving yards and 15.3 yards per catch each rank second on the team. Simonds caught his first collegiate touchdown pass a week earlier, helping to rally Colgate to a 31-28 overtime victory over host Dartmouth on Sept. 15. His 17-yard TD reception pulled the Raiders within 28-20 with 10 minutes, 31 seconds left in regulation.
Marathons ran into tough luck in 2007
The most popular Michigan marathons include the scenic Bayshore Marathon along the Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City on May 24, the Detroit Free Press Marathon on October 19 and the Grand Rapids Marathon, also on October 19. Training help is available for marathons both inside and outside of Michigan through Team Playmakers and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training (TNT) program. La-La Land of the Giants
I should have listened to my wife. She told me to wash my car. But I'd been on the road just about every weekend for three months, covering NFL games, and a carwash didn't register on my list of priorities.
So the other day I wheezed up to the Beverly Hills Hotel in my one-headlight Volvo that's covered in dust and bird droppings, and filled with old newspapers, water bottles, my son's basketball, and -- disturbingly -- my daughter's collection of stripped-bare Barbie dolls.

J.C. Price inducts 21 into Hall of Fame
Leon Gaither III played on Salisbury's 1974 championship football team that went 11-2, and he's proud of his son, Mackel, a burly West Rowan lineman who played on an 11-2 team this fall. But Leon Gaither III's father still owns family bragging rights and always will. He played on the undefeated 1940 J.C. Price High team that didn't allow a point. Gaither grew up believing his father's stories about coach Spencer Lancaster's Red Devils were exaggerations. But then he saw the 1940 team's scores in a story the Post did two years ago. "I was glad to find out it wasn't all tall tales," Gaither told a clapping, cheering audience at Price Hall of Fame induction ceremonies held at First Cavalry Baptist Church on Saturday. Price's athletic accomplishments during its run from 1922-1969 as Salisbury's high school for African-American students may sound like fairy tales, but they really happened.

"They just did not have the business success they hoped," said John Rossetti, owner of Rossetti Co. and one of four partners who own the properties. Black Sea Gallery manager Moe Sari believes his furniture business was affected by the slowdown in the housing industry. "Black Sea Gallery has closed four stores already in California and plans to close two more," Sari said. "It's getting to look like a recession to me, and it's not going to get better any time soon.
Doug Clark getting patted down????
Good evening, ya'll... I admit, I can two different sides of the video of Doug Clark being patted down by police shortly before climbing into an unmarked police car with Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick, but I am uncertain which truly applies. The first, as viewed through the eyes of a sworn member of the Spokane Police Department is WHY? Doug Clark, as far as I know, has been an upstanding citizen and area resident, has never been arrested, and has been a respected journalist for decades. Any police officer could discover that much within seconds using a city-issued laptop. Then why would an officer pat him down as if he were a felony stop suspect? Read the rest of this entry » .
